Here Shankara pours out not only his heart but also all his poetic skill in painting a picture of Shiva which no one can view without a thrill. These hundred verses have been aptly called Shivananda Lahari, the waves of bliss that inundate those who contemplate on Shiva.
When we can attach the mind to -- or detach it from -- the sense at our will, we shall really possess character. Then alone we shall have taken a long step towards freedom; before that, we are mere machines.
